The second wave of corona virus has hit India, hundred times harder than before and the Asian southern peninsular is gasping literally gasping for oxygen. So, what went wrong? Was it the government, who is responsible for all this mess or is it every Indian? The root cause for this nightmare cannot be detected with certainty, but in this read I will try to point at two main reasons according to me which led India to this catastrophe.

We didn’t learn from our past mistakes
India luckily steered through the first wave of the pandemic with a few setbacks. When the nation witnessed its first ever peak in September last year, there was just silence to all the questions concerning the condition of medical sector in the country. We dodged that wave by compromising our economy. Like every other nation India too was locked down for several months, but unlike other nations we didn’t learned anything form the first wave. We didn’t learn how to manage the supply of essential drugs, how to handle oxygen, how to boost up the medical infrastructure of the country, how to educate the masses and even some of us even didn’t learn the importance of wearing a mask.
It is not like the authorities did nothing. A number of actions were taken, and sanctions were made to different departments but the old vices of our system corruption and procrastination sold us out to the second wave.

The ‘Busy’ Government
After fighting the first wave successfully what was expected from the government was not at all surprising. What the common man wanted from the government was to give a boost to the stagnant medical sector of the economy. Expand availability of medical facilities to the grass root level, ensuring sufficient availability of medicines and other lifesaving instruments, developing a country wide oxygen generating system, greater availability of hospitals among others were even promised in the recent budget, but they also ended up being just paper claims. For a common man, passing of farm laws and conducting elections were never ahead of having a better preparation for the impending second wave. But surely the government must have had its own reasons. But if that’s not the case, who else do we have to blame for all this chaos?
